The College Entrance Exams

For many people, the biggest hurdle in the college application process is scoring well on the SAT or ACT test. These test have been created in an attempt to have a “standard” test that compares all students equally. While we know there is no perfect test to do this, the SAT and ACT are the only way to go in most cases. So, these along with the “practice” SAT or PSAT will be what we focus on here to try and help students score higher on exam day.

The PSAT

The PSAT is a practice test to help prepare students for the SAT the following year. This is a great opportunity for students to see what the SAT test looks like and how the questions are formatted. The SAT has a unique way of testing kids by using different question formats than most students are used to seeing. Understanding this is the easiest way to pick up 100 to 200 points on test day.

The SAT

The SAT test was created the the the College Board in an attempt to create a “level” test for all students attempting to gain entrance into a collge or university. While there is no perfectly “equal” or “level” test that can do this, the SAT has become the standard. There are a number of simple strategies that can help any student score better. We will get into these here.
